Fakhar Zaman, the opening batter for Pakistan, has been awarded the International Cricket Council Men’s Player of the Month for April. The cricket governing body announced the news on Tuesday, citing Zaman’s stellar performance in the two opening matches of Pakistan’s five-match One-day International series against New Zealand. Zaman scored a century in each game, with his unbeaten 180 in the second match in Rawalpindi being particularly impressive. This helped Pakistan achieve their second-highest run chase, securing them a crucial victory.

Zaman’s strong performance saw him beat out tough competition from Sri Lanka’s spin wizard Prabath Jayasuriya and emerging New Zealand batter Mark Chapman. In an official news release, the ICC praised Zaman’s efforts and congratulated him on the award.

In response to the accolade, Fakhar Zaman expressed his gratitude, saying he was “truly honoured” to receive the award. He went on to describe April as “one of the highlights” of his career and spoke of the amazing feeling of playing in front of his own people in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi. Zaman further added that he hoped to continue his momentum leading into the World Cup and make Pakistan fans happy and proud with his performances.
