Pakistan’s cricket team achieved a historic milestone on Friday as they defeated New Zealand by 102 runs in the fourth ODI, taking a 4-0 lead in the ongoing five-match series. This victory has propelled them to the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) team rankings for the first time since ICC officially recognised the rankings in January 2005. Pakistan had previously achieved their highest ranking of number three in January 2007.

Before the start of the series, Pakistan was ranked fifth in the ODI rankings with a rating of 106. They now have a rating of 113.483, surpassing Australia (113.286) and India (112.638). This achievement highlights Pakistan’s dominance in the 50-over format of the game.

To maintain their number one spot in the ODI rankings, Pakistan must ensure a clean sweep by winning the fifth and final ODI against New Zealand on Sunday, 7 May. Failure to do so could result in them slipping back to number three and Australia reclaiming their number one ranking.
