Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is keen on a move to Newcastle United after the Magpies cooled their interest in Manchester United ace Dean Henderson.

The England international is keen on staying in the top flight following the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship.

Eddie Howe is keen on signing competition for Martin Dubravka and the Magpies had explored a deal for Dean Henderson.

However, Henderson has agreed personal terms with Nottingham Forest over a loan move to the club, where he knows he’ll be first choice.

Newcastle could offer him no such guarantee but Pope is willing to battle it out to be number one in the north-east, according to the Daily Mail.

Pope has been one of Burnley’s standout performers in recent seasons and he still impressed last term, despite the Clarets’ relegation.

The 30-year-old has a year to run on his contract at Turf Moor and Burnley will reluctantly let him leave for the right price.

Newcastle’s priority remains signing a striker and a centre-back but they are confident of pulling off a deal for Pope.
