Cristiano Ronaldo paid a classy tribute to Marcelo after the Manchester United forward’s former team-mate announced his departure from Real Madrid.
The pair were team-mates for nine years at the Bernabeu, winning a raft of trophies including four Champions League titles.
Marcelo is the most decorated Real player of all-time and he collected his fifth Champions League medal on his final appearance for the club in the 1-0 win against Liverpool in Paris last month.
Ronaldo had a great understanding with Marcelo on the pitch but they were just as close off the field.
And the Portugal captain has paid a touching tribute to the Brazilian by saying he will always be ‘more than a team-mate’.
‘More than a teammate, a brother that football gave me,’ said Ronaldo.
‘On and off the fields, one of the biggest stars with whom I had the pleasure of sharing a locker room.
‘Go with everything on this new adventure, Marcelo!’
Marcelo is yet to announce his next move, though he did insist that he will not be retiring.
The left-back is open to staying in Spain but he has offers from MLS and his native Brazil.
