Fulham are in talks with Arsenal over a move for goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Leno, 30, arrived in north London from Bayer Leverkusen in 2018, beginning the 2021-22 season as Arsenal’s no1 in goal before losing his place to Aaron Ramsdale.
After just eight appearances in all competitions last season, the German eager for more starting opportunities.
The Athletic report newly-promoted Fulham are ready to offer him just that. While no deal has been agreed at this stage, Leno’s preference is to remain in London and is believed to be the Cottagers’ favoured candidate.
Fulham sealed promotion as Championship winners last season and are looking to avoid another short stay back in the top flight.
Marek Rodak and Paulo Gazzaniga shared goalkeeping duties for Marco Silva’s side last season.
Arsenal meanwhile have already signed another understudy for Ramsdale in American shot stopper Matt Turner.
The Gunners agreed a deal to sign the 27-year-old from MLS side New England Revolution in February.
Turner, who was named MLS goalkeeper of the year last season, is relishing the prospect of working with Ramsdale and believes both goalkeepers can improve once he arrives in north London.
‘I’m really excited to get to know Aaron Ramsdale,’ Turner told the Major League Soccer YouTube channel last month. ‘He has loads of experience throughout every top league in England and he’s had a great season.
‘Speaking to him and getting to know him and developing that working relationship will be great, and then challenging him to become better and allowing him to help me to become better too.’
