Liverpool are waiting for Bayern Munich’s response after a second bid for Sadio Mane was rejected, before they press ahead with plans to complete the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica.

The Reds are reluctantly willing to let Mane leave after six years of stellar service, but only once Bayern meet their valuation.

An offer of £30million was flatly rejected earlier this week with high-ranking Liverpool officials branding the offer a ‘joke’ given it comprised of several likely unattainable bonus clauses.

The Reds will allow the Senegal international to depart once Bayern submit a bid in the region of £40m and Liverpool anticipate a swift resolution, according to The Telegraph.

Once the funds are secured from the sale of Mane, Liverpool will be in a position to finalise a move for Nunez who is primed to become the club’s record signing.

The 22-year-old Uruguay international is also attracting interest from Manchester United but is reported to be sold on the idea of moving to Anfield and working under Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool manager has already lavished the striker with praise and singled him out ahead of his side’s Champions League tie against Benfica last season.

He said: ‘Really good, really good. I knew it before but he played pretty much in front of me.

‘Physically strong, quick, was calm with his finish. Really good. If he stays healthy, it’s a big career ahead of him.’

Liverpool have already secured the services of Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and tied James Milner to a new one-year deal.

The FA and Carabao Cup holders also confirmed the departures of seven players on Thursday, including the likes of Divock Origi and Loris Karius.

Klopp is also willing to let Takumi Minamino leave amid interest from Leeds who have been told to stump up £17m if they want to sign the Japan international.
