Tottenham have rejected the chance to sign Argentine forward Paulo Dybala after baulking at his £280,000-a-week wage demands.

The 28-year-old is available on a free transfer after announcing that he will not be extending his contract at Juventus, who he joined in 2015.

Dybala was a target for Spurs and Manchester United in 2019, with both clubs exploring a deal for the Argentine into the final hours of the summer transfer window.

The former Palermo man ended up staying at Juventus but he’s now open to moving to England, with Antonio Conte known to be a fan.

However, the Daily Mail say that Tottenham – who had the strongest interest in Dybala out of the English clubs – have turned down the opportunity to sign him because of his wage demands.

Dybala would break Spurs’ wage structure, making him the highest paid player at the club above Harry Kane.

Arsenal and Manchester United are similarly disinterested, despite both admiring the player’s quality.

The Gunners’ failure to make the top four means they have had to scale back their transfer plans.

Inter Milan are now leading the chase for Dybala, though they’re only willing to give Dybala around £260,000-a-week before tax.
