Juan Mata will consider joining another Premier League club after it was announced he would be leaving Manchester United.

The Spaniard, 34, will depart on a free transfer after eight years at Old Trafford, with his contract running out at the end of the month.

It was thought Mata was targeting a move to the MLS or back to Spain as he seeks to extend his playing career.

However, The Times says he is keen to go to a club where he will play on a regular basis and has not ruled out staying in England.

Last season, the midfielder made just seven appearances in the Premier League and has not played more than 20 league games in a campaign for three years.

Reports suggest Mata was offered a new one-year deal by the Red Devils but decided to turn it down.

The former Chelsea man is one of a host of stars to leave Manchester United on a free transfer this summer.

Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard have already confirmed their exits from the club.

Meanwhile, new manager Erik ten Hag is believed to be targeting a central-midfielder and striker as he looks to fill holes left by the departing stars.

During his time at United, Mata played over 200 games and won the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Upon leaving the club, he said: ‘From here, from the middle of the pitch at Old Trafford, at night. I’m alone. Actually, this feels like a dream.

‘I wanted to say thank you very much to all of you for your support over the years and especially during the difficult times that we lived together.

‘I will never forget you. Thank you very much. All the best from the bottom of my heart and goodbye.’
