Saturday Night Live offered a unique yet hilarious interpretation of Will Smith’s Oscar bust-up with Chris Rock.

Last Sunday’s shocking Academy Awards saw the King Richard actor, 53, strike the comedian, 57, live on-air after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.

In what has been a whirlwind of a week for Smith, the Hancock star has issued a public apology to Rock, calling his behaviour ‘unacceptable and inexcusable,’ and he also announced his decision to resign from the Academy.

In true SNL style, the sketch titled Seat Fillers, saw stand-up comic Chris Redd playing Smith, while show host Jerrod Carmichael took on the role of a devoted fan.

‘The Pursuit of Happyness is so inspiring, I just showed it to my son. Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It is still my ringtone to this day,’ he enthused.

Redd’s Smith later stood up and says he’ll be ‘right back’ and a slap was later heard but not shown.

Shocked by what he’s just seen, Carmichael continues to engage in small talk with Redd’s Smith – who cuts him off with Smith’s infamous line to Rock: ‘Keep my wife’s name out your f****** mouth.’

SNL wasn’t the only one using the scandal for comedic purposes, as James Corden also poked fun at the situation with a hilarious Encanto parody.

During last Monday’s Late Late Show, Corden sat down with his producers to discuss what standout moments from the Oscars to talk about on the episode.

‘We don’t talk about Jada, no, no, no,’ he stated after his colleagues attempted to bring up Smith storming the stage and assaulting Rock.

Having been facing expulsion or suspension from the organisation following the incident, with an investigation still ongoing, the 53-year-old said: ‘I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.’

David Rubin, the president of the Academy, said in a statement sent to PA news agency: ‘We have received and accepted Mr Will Smith’s immediate resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.’

He continued: ‘We will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, in advance of our next scheduled board meeting on April 18.’
