As Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy makes its highly-anticipated return this summer, fans clocked on to a drastic change ahead of its release.

Elliot Page (Vanya), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison) and Robert Sheehan (Klaus) are reprising their roles in the hit sci-fi, which follows a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an impending apocalypse.

As showrunner Steve Blackman confirmed the third chapter’s release date on social media – which is June 22 – a Twitter spoiler page had others focusing on something else – the age rating has been switched from a TV-14 to a TV-MA, meaning the drama isn’t suited to anyone under the age of 17.

While some questioned what that meant, others were happy producers have decided to up the ante this time round.

‘Idk if I’m ready for mature themes tbh,’ one person tweeted.

While another certainly took the change-up well and added: ‘OKAYYYY IM EVEN MORE EXCITED NOW.’

The Umbrella Academy, a show known for its bizarre nature, is based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way, and follows a group of individuals with special abilities who are all born on the same day and adopted by eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore).

Teasing fans over the drama that awaits, actress Emmy, whose character Allison has powerful powers of persuasion said: ‘Wow. I don’t think the world’s ready for this. I think it’s our best season yet.’

Vanya actor Elliot added: ‘That’s a wrap of season three of Umbrella Academy and I’m stoked ‘cause I can’t wait for you to see it and sad ‘cause I’ll miss everyone.’

Season three of The Umbrella Academy premieres on Netflix on June 22 and season one and two is available to watch now.
