Kate Beckinsale is her daughter Lily Sheen’s biggest cheerleader.

The actress, 48, couldn’t contain her pride after her 23-year-old’s role in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which premiered at the South by Southwest festival (SXSW) on Saturday.

Kate, who shares Lily with ex Michael Sheen, posted a stunning photo of her daughter posing on the red carpet for the premiere as she praised her ‘fantastic’ project.

That scene in Mean Girls where Regina George’s mum jumps out of her seat to film her daughter performing at the Winter Talent Show while repeating the choreography herself? That’s Kate with Lily.

Sharing her motherly pride with her 5.2million Instagram followers, the Underworld star wrote: ‘So proud of you, @lily_sheen . My beautiful, brilliant baby is in this FANTASTIC, electric, vibrant, hilarious movie. She’s playing Nicolas Cage’s daughter while Nicolas Cage is playing Nicolas Cage.’

She continued: ‘The movie is bonkers and amazing and everyone is wonderful but obviously she’s my favourite. So excited to see you fly, little bird 💕💕💕’

So sweet!

Lily was quick to hype her mum up right back, however, commenting: ‘Thank you queen wowza!!!!!!!! You are the blueprint’

Kate’s celeb pals were also full of praise for the up-and-coming film star, with the likes of Paris Hilton commenting: ‘Congrats @lily_sheen! 👏 So proud of you love! 😍’

Lily looked gorgeous as she posed up a storm at the premiere, dressed in a low-cut black gown with her hair styled in a slicked back bun.

Kate also shared a screen shot of the movie’s ultra-rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes along with videos of her daughter answering questions inside the screening.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent tells the story of actor Nicolas Cage as he is unfulfilled and facing financial ruin.

He accepts a $1million (£767k) offer to attend a wealthy fan’s birthday party, but things take a wildly unexpected turn when a CIA operative recruits the star for an unusual mission.

As he takes on the role of a lifetime, Nicolas soon finds himself channelling his most iconic and beloved characters to save himself and his loved ones.

Lily recently spoke to USA Today about playing the actor’s daughter in the action-comedy movie, admitting she didn’t think she was going to make it through the first day of shooting.

‘I’m not sporty. I was like, “I’m not going to be able to throw this,” and I was bugging out, like, “Oh, my God. I’m going to ruin this movie on the first [day]. I’m not going to be able to throw it.”‘

Lily went on to say how pleased she was to have her mum supporting her at the premiere.

‘I wanted her to see it. I wanted her opinion on it, and I’m just happy that she got to come and be in the experience with me.

‘She was going crazy. We were all screaming.’

Lily was born in 1999, and her parents dated between 1995 and 2003, but never married.

Her mum Kate later married director Len Wiseman in 2003 and adopted her as a stepdaughter.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent hits cinemas on April 22.
