The Great British Bake Off 2021 star Jürgen Krauss has left fans in an absolute state with his heartfelt exit letter, comparing being on the beloved show to flying to the moon.

On tonight’s episode of Bake Off on Channel 4, Jürgen went up against Crystelle, Chigs and Giuseppe in the semi-final, concocting a variety of patisseries for a chance to be in next week’s final.

Unfortunately, fan-favourite Jürgen became the latest baker to be eliminated by Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, breaking hearts across the nation.

In his exit letter, the IT professional paid homage to the friendships he’s forged with the other contestants, while also explaining how his stint on the show has given him more ‘confidence’ in his baking.

‘Who wants to fly to the moon if you can be on Bake Off? It was such a fantastic ride!’ he wrote.

‘Preparing all the recipes gave me confidence to experiment with flavours in sweet baking, to an extent I’ve never done before.’

Jürgen also thanked all the viewers who have supported him on his Bake Off journey.

‘A huge thank you to all of you for all the kindness and warmth in your response and support! Lots of love, Jürgen,’ he said.

As can be expected, Bake Off fans were beside themselves with sadness over Jürgen’s tear-inducing words.

‘Noooo I’m not OK with this – he was my winner!’ one person tweeted.

‘Gutted for him, he was brilliant,’ another said.

Someone else responded to Jürgen’s letter by writing: ‘I can’t continue after reading this, the purest of souls.’

‘A hero even at the end,’ another remarked.

There aren’t enough sobbing emojis in the world.

After the news of his exit on Bake Off, Jürgen admitted that he ‘kind of saw it coming’.

‘I think the others are more shocked than I am,’ after the camera showed Giuseppe, Chigs and Crystelle’s jaws dropping in response to his elimination.

He continued: ‘It’s been incredible. I’ve really enjoyed being here, I’ve made friends for life and I will be with them in spirit.’

Having performed admirably throughout Bake Off, Jürgen’s exit might have come as an even greater shock considering he came first in the Technical in this week’s episode.

However, that just goes to show how tight the competition is ahead of the grand finale.

The Great British Bake Off concludes next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
