I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Richard Madeley has implored the public to vote for him to do the trials ahead of the show’s launch.

The official line-up for the 2021 series has confirmed that the Good Morning Britain presenter is one of the first 10 stars heading into the castle when the programme returns on Sunday.

Viewers can now vote for who they want to compete in the first trial using the programme’s app, with the vote closing at 8pm on Tuesday and Richard has put himself forward.

‘I really hope I do get voted for the trials,’ he enthused. ‘The thing about this programme is you mustn’t go into it if you take yourself remotely seriously.

‘I don’t and I am thoroughly looking forward to being covered in God knows what! You have to be prepared for people to laugh and I see this as a bloody great romp of fun!’

Richard has taken part in a few trials before as a guest on I’m A Celebrity’s spin-off ITV2 series, Extra Camp, including lying down in a coffin with snakes.

He said the only challenge he is fearful of is the route he will have to take to get to the Welsh castle.

‘I spent many years on my grandparents’ farm in Shropshire,’ he revealed. ‘I am used to animals, rats, so I’ve had all that knocked out of me.

‘I don’t like heights though and what bothers me the most is the route into the castle. Maybe I will have to walk a plank over a 150-foot open space.

‘I am not looking forward to that at all and I know my head could say “do it” and my body could freeze.’

Richard will be joined by the likes of football star David Ginola, Emmerdale actor Danny Miller and singer Frankie Bridge.

Louise Minchin is also signed up, alongside Olympic gold medallist diver Matty Lee, Radio 1Xtra DJ Snoochie Shy, chart-topping music producer Naughty Boy, Paralympic gold medal athlete, Kadeena Cox, and former Premier League footballer David Ginola.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! starts on Sunday November 21 at 9pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
