Eamonn Holmes could be making a ‘smart move’ swapping This Morning for his own show on GB News according to a reputation expert.

It has been widely reported that the presenter has decided to leave the ITV daytime programme after 15 years after being offered a place at the new network, which launched in June 2021.

Tim Jotischky, Director of Reputation at The PHA Group, exclusively told Metro.co.uk that while Eamonn is taking a huge risk by calling it a day at This Morning, the pay-off could be huge.

‘On the face of it, Eamonn is risking his credibility by going to GB News, which has struggled to be taken seriously as a fledgling broadcaster, but it could turn out to be a smart move,’ Tim told us.

‘Eammon has talked about his fears of falling victim to the cancel culture, and previously got himself into difficulties when appearing to make a link between 5G and coronavirus, so he might find it liberating to join a channel which has publicly declared war on woke. He will have freer rein there.’

‘The risk is that GB News fails to establish itself as a broadcaster, but there are signs that it is finding a small but loyal audience and he probably feels it is a risk worth taking at this stage of his career when there are likely to be fewer opportunities with ITV,’ Tim continued.

‘He will be a big beast at GB News and they will want to promote him extensively.’

News of Eamonn’s supposed departure from This Morning was reported on Thursday night.

A source told The Mirror: ‘Eamonn’s move to GB News marks the end of an era.

‘He’ll be missed by many ITV viewers but, the truth is, this job offer probably came at just the right moment for both him and ITV. All good things come to an end.’

He joined This Morning in 2006 and fronted Friday’s episode with his wife Ruth Langsford until earlier this year when Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond took over.

The couple does however return occasionally when Monday to Thursday hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are away for the holidays.

It’s been said that Ruth is ‘unlikely’ to remain on This Morning without her husband by her side but she is expected to remain as a presenter on Loose Women.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
