LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday demanded from Prime Minister Imran Khan to face the legal consequences after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) report about the NA-75 Daska by-polls.

Talking to media, Shehbaz Sharif said, “If Imran Niazi has even a little respect for law, democracy and political ethics then he should step down and face the law.”

He asked Imran Khan what he was waiting for after stealing of the votes was established. He said an attempt was being made to confiscate people’s votes and right to elect their representatives as well like their capital.

The ECP in its report on November 6 had said that during the Daska by-elections on February 19 police, local administration and election officials were found to be “puppets in the hands of their unlawful masters”, hence they could not perform their duty as expected.

Violence, rigging and disappearance of more than 20 presiding officers was reported in the elections, following which an inquiry was launched by the ECP. The election commission had ordered re-election after withholding the results suspecting rigging in the polls.

Later, PML-N candidate Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar won the election in April by securing 110,075 votes against PTI’s Ali Asjad Malhi, who had received 93,433 votes.

Criticising the PM for seeking the elections reforms, Shehbaz Sharif said Imran Niazi Sahib needed the black election reforms and electronic voting machine after he was caught stealing votes in Daska.
