Below Deck Mediterranean star Hannah Ferrier has led tributes to Captain Mark Howard, after his death.

The captain, who appeared on the first season of the Med spin-off, ‘died suddenly in Florida last week’, aged 65.

A family friend told TMZ that he died suddenly at his home but no further details have been revealed.

Following the news, former chief stewardess Hannah, who appeared on the Bravo series with the late star, paid tribute on social media.

Taking to Instagram, she shared a snap of Captain Howard with fans, alongside the message: ‘Rest In Peace my friend. You were a great captain, friend and colleague.

‘Always the gentleman. You will be missed.’

Replying to her post, Captain Glenn Shephard, who leads the way on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, commented: ‘Sorry for your loss Hannah, my thoughts are with all of Captain Mark’s friends and loved ones.’

Sandy Yawn, who replaced Howard as captain on Below Deck Med, also offered her condolences on Twitter, posting: ‘Such sad news. When I met him, I felt such a kindness. GodSpeed Captain Mark.’

As Tiffany Copeland added: ‘RIP Captain Mark Howard. You were a joy to be around.’

Captain Howard appeared on Below Deck Med when it first set sail in 2016, and helmed the way in 13 episodes on board the Ionian Princess yacht.

He was a hit with viewers thanks to his no-nonsense attitude, and his desire to steer clear from the drama.

However, he only appeared in the first series of the spin-off, with Captain Sandy taking his place for the following episodes.

His show bio confirmed that he had been in the industry for nearly 30 years, and had international experience ‘ranging from sailing the South Pacific to the Mediterranean and Caribbean on both private and charter boats’.

Captain Howard is survived by wife Susan.
