*Warning: Contains spoilers for episode 3 of Angela Black*

Angela Black returned darker and more gripping than ever on Sunday night, with the Joanne Froggatt drama back on our screens.

There were plenty of developments for viewers to take in, with the plot thickening once again as Angela tried to exact her own version of justice.

After being convinced by Ed, Angela agreed to go ahead with a plan to kill Olivier (Michiel Huisman) in his sleep.

But despite the theatrics from Angela who called the police from a neighbour’s house, as well as leaving the door open for Ed to murder Olivier, he emerged unscathed and their plan wasn’t seen through.

The episode started and ended with Angela in a prison cell – what will happen to her next?

It left us with plenty of questions – here’s everything we need to know after episode three.

Does Ed really exist?

Viewers have been sharing their theories on Ed’s identity over recent weeks, and we’re more convinced than ever after episode three that they could be onto something.

Many believed that a major twist was on the horizon, as they reckoned Ed doesn’t actually exist and is just a figment of her imagination.

‘Ed isn’t real she’s made him up to cope with the trauma,’ one guessed. ‘That’s why he can’t follow the husband.’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘Yep I’m convinced that this fella doesn’t really exist.’

Now, we’re closer than ever to finding out the truth. Sunday’s episode saw a police officer told Angela that the home she met Ed in is in fact empty, and the CCTV showed no evidence of his existence whatsoever.

Could he really be a figment of her imagination?

Is Angela really having a mental breakdown?

There’s still so much to be explained (Picture: ITV)

The biggest revelation from episode three saw the police officer tell Angela that the name she’d given them, Ed Harrison, is in fact the name of a writer. And the really devastating thing? That writer produced a novel with a plot which is identical to Angela’s current situation (with a husband hiring a hitman to kill his wife).

Angela is sectioned under the mental health act at the end of the episode – but is she really suffering a mental breakdown, brought on by Olivier’s violent abuse?

What happened at Edgewater?

Another reason Angela was sectioned under the mental health act was because of her ‘history… and what happened at Edgewater’.

Edgewater has been mentioned ominously throughout the first three episodes, and its implications could have a huge impact on our understanding of the series. But what on earth happened there?

Will Angela clear her name and be released from prison?

Viewers saw Angela being held in a prison cell at the beginning and end of the instalment, but will she be able to clear her name and be released?

While she is at least safe from Olivier in the cell for the time being, with three episodes left it’s perhaps unlikely that she will spend the rest of the series under lock and key.

But will she get out? And if so, how?

Will Olivier exact his revenge?

It’s unclear whether or not Olivier knows that Angela was up to something during the night he was drugged.

If he does know she was trying to kill him, it’s guarantee that Olivier will be looking to exact revenge.

Will Angela feel the repercussions of her botched assassination attempt? Will we be seeing his grandfather’s gun again, perhaps?

Angela Black airs on Sunday nights at 9pm on ITV.
