Jasbir Singh Hayer – aka Jaz, one half of the DJ duo Kray Twinz – has died from complications of Covid-19.

The music star had been in hospital for four weeks with the virus before his death earlier this week.

His family broke the news yesterday on the Kray Twinz’ official social media pages, thanking ‘everyone who has been sending their love’ during this difficult time.

In a statement, Jaz’s family announced: ‘With heavy hearts … the passing of their beloved son, brother, husband and father.

‘Jaz spent 4 weeks in hospital battling Covid-19 during which time he was supported medically. He passed away peacefully in the afternoon of the 19th of October.’

Addressing Jaz directly, his heartbroken family lamented the loss of his unique talent, and said he is ‘and always will be an inspiration to us and many others.’

‘Anybody that needed help or advice, you would be there for them. You could never say no to anyone.

‘You have inspired millions around the globe and there is so much of you to celebrate.’

They asked Jaz’s friends and fans to ‘celebrate his warm heart, generous spirit and humour which will be deeply missed’, and asked for ‘the utmost respect and privacy’ during this difficult time.

Fans of Jaz and his music flocked to the comments to offer their condolences to his family, particularly to his identical twin brother Jat with whom he found huge success in the music industry.

Labour MP for Birmingham Edgbaston, Preet Gill, said she was ‘really sad’ to hear of his passing, adding: ‘Thoughts are with his family.’

The Kray Twinz, who were raised in Coventry, were major players in the world of R&B and desi music.

The award-winning music producers were named the winners of the Best DJ Award at the Brit Asia World Music Awards in 2017.

The pair were also passionate about campaigning for social justice, having voiced support for Palestine and posting regularly about India’s farmer’s protest, sparked by new farm laws enacted by the government which farmers believe will destroy their livelihoods.
