Dan Walker sent his best wishes to former rival Piers Morgan following his departure from ITV’s Life Stories, and ‘brilliant’ Kate Garraway who will be taking over as host.

Piers confirmed the switch on Twitter after teasing his news in the late hours of Thursday evening.

He shared: ‘BREAKING NEWS: I’m quitting Life Stories after 12 years and 100 shows.

‘My final one will be with ⁦my fabulous friend @kategarraway ⁩and she will then present the remaining 3 planned shows of the next series as I leave ITV to host my new global daily show. It’s been a blast!’

The broadcaster, 56, has had a long-standing pseudo-rivalry with BBC Breakfast presenter Dan, 44, however Dan put all that aside and congratulated Piers on Twitter for his service on Life Stories.

He said: ‘You’ve had some amazing guests over the years. I’m sure @kategarraway will be brilliant. All the best with the new show.’

Dan, who is currently part of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, hasn’t always seen eye to eye with Piers, and were known for clashing back and forth on Twitter, comparing BBC Breakfast ratings to Good Morning Britain.

Piers sensationally left ITV’s morning show back in March after a row over comments he made on the Duchess of Sussex.

However the outspoken broadcaster confirmed in September that will be joining News Corp’s new TV channel, Talk TV, in early 2022 after having struck up multiple deals with the brand.

Piers told The Sun of his exit: ‘I can’t think of anyone who I’d rather finish my run with.

‘Kate was a wonderfully loyal colleague during my five years on Good Morning Britain and is one of my favourite people in the world.

‘How she’s handled the devastating situation with Derek sums her up. She’ll be as brilliant at Life Stories as she is at everything else.’

Kate told the publication: ‘I’d never try to be Piers. But he did say you’ll be gripping and wonderful in your own right.’

Life Stories will return to ITV.
