You’s Joe Goldberg has a new obsession to social media stalk and, perhaps surprisingly, it’s Cardi B.
In a surprise to Twitter users everywhere, Cardi and Penn’s new friendship unfolded in front of their very eyes in a rather sweet exchange.
It all began on Wednesday when the WAP rapper joked that she’s now ‘made it’ after learning that Penn is a huge fan of hers.
Reacting to the flattering discovery, Cardi, 29, tweeted: ‘OOOOMMFFFGGGGGG HE KNOWS ME !!! OMMMGGGG!!!!!! Yoooo like I’m famous famous.’
Penn, 34, seemed equally stunned to find out that Cardi was likewise a fan of his, and replied almost speechless: ‘I-.’
The banter continued with the rapper replied with a meme of a child saying: ‘Is that you? Is that me? No that’s not!’
They didn’t stop there either, as Cardi made the ultimate gesture to show her love for Penn by changing her profile picture to a photo of Penn as his character Joe in the hit Netflix series. Penn returned the favour by swapping his to a photo of the rapper and, alas, the friendship is official.
Cardi’s reaction was spurred by a video she found of Penn praising how ‘authentic’ she comes across as on social media, rarely afraid to tweet her mind or let fans into the most private of moments.
Speaking during a press conference to promote the latest season of You, Penn said: ‘She has such an authentic relationship. And to me, it’s such a nuanced place to be.
‘And despite what many might judge as “antics” and all this, I feel like she has an incredibly authentic relationship to [social media]. And I think that’s why people like her so much.’
Luckily for Cardi, Penn is nothing like his notorious character Joe in You, who has a tendency to develop obsessions with women – sometimes on social media – before stalking them in real life and, well, locking them up in his glass cage.
Penn is currently starring in season three of You, which has earned rave reviews and is currently number one on Netflix UK. The series was renewed for season four just days before the latest one was released.
You season three is available to stream on Netflix.
