ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday warned the opposition-led Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) of consequences if it made any “mistake” at a time when the region was going through a crucial period.

The PDM – an alliance of some opposition parties – on October 17 had decided to launch nationwide protests against inflation and the recent hike in prices of petroleum products.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said that the opposition should know that this was not the time for making chaos in the country.

“The government will accept any protest within the law,” however, the minister warned that “any mistake by the opposition could become problematic for them.”

“The government has completed its three-and-a-half years, and it will complete the allocated period of five years. No one should be in any confusion.”

As the PDM gears up to take on the government during the upcoming nationwide protests, Rashid asked the opposition parties to show responsibility when only “20 to 22 months were left in the next general elections.”

“The opposition wants to launch movement against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government based on rumours. These rumours will die down in 10 to 15 days,” claimed Rashid.
