Johnny Depp seemed in good spirits as he appeared at the Rome Film Festival, for the screening of his new TV series, Puffins.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor, 58, channeled Captain Jack Sparrow as he hit the red carpet in Italy earlier today.

He smiled widely and waved at waiting fans at the bash, donning a pinstripe black waistcoat and jeans.

The Oscar-nominated star added a tan jacket to the look, and accessorised with a selection of scarves, necklaces, sunglasses and a hat.

At one point, he held his hands up in appreciation for the audience before making his way into the screening.

Puffins takes viewers on the adventures of a group of little birds who are the minions of a sly walrus.

Johnny plays Johnny Puffin in the animated series, which is available to stream on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

The Edward Scissorhands frontman’s appearance comes after he condemned the cancel culture movement.

He is currently embroiled in an ongoing legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, after losing a libel trial against The Sun’s publisher last year over an article that branded him a ‘wife-beater’.

Johnny is suing his former partner over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she wrote: ‘I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.’

In August, a judge ruled that the actor will be allowed to have a second libel trial despite losing the first one.

During an appearance at the San Sebastian Film Festival, in Spain, last month, he expressed his fear that his stint at the festival would ‘offend people’.

‘It can be seen as an event in history that lasted for however long it lasted, this cancel culture, this instant rush to judgement based on what essentially amounts to polluted air,’ he said.

‘It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. Not anyone out that door. No one is safe. It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled.

‘It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people. This type of thing has happened to women, men. Children have suffered from various types of unpleasantries.

‘Sadly at a certain point they begin to think that it’s normal. Or that it’s them. When it’s not.’
