The computer-controlled players in Battlefield 2042 are a bit too accurate to how real people play, as they’re caught teadbagging humans.
Even from the earliest days, Battlefield has been so focused on online play that it’s never had any time for computer-controlled players, aka bots.
Battlefield 2042 does have them though, so you can practice on your own or use them to fill in during a match when you haven’t got enough real players. There were questions about how competent they’d be, but the current open beta suggests they’re a bit too realistic.
Numerous players have reported that bots are not only shooting dead bodies, which is frowned upon in human circles, but even teabagging downed players – crouching up and down on their bodies to rub in the victory.
Presumably developer DICE hasn’t programmed them to do this on purpose, and them shooting dead bodies can be put down to being a bug, but how and why the teabagging is happening is a mystery.
Human players can be disqualified for doing either thing in a professional match, but the bot equivalent will presumably be a quick rewiring.
A similar thing was reported in the recent Halo Infinite technical tests, which suggests bad manners may be a universal constant.
Although it’s perhaps reassuring that the first goal of advanced artificial intelligence is not to destroy all humans but just humiliate them in a video game.
Still, as Kuiil from The Mandalorian said, a bot is not good or bad, they are ‘neutral reflections of those who imprint them’. Which suggests that some DICE developers are not as good sports as they should be.
