Will Smith has come right out and said his movie Wild Wild West is a ‘thorn in his side’, ranking it flat-out as the worst film he has done – ouch.

The Hollywood star was asked what he thinks his best and worst movies were and he admitted the 1999 Western movie was his least favourite, as he reflected on his acting career.

Speaking in an episode of Actually Me for GQ, he said: ‘For the best, I think it’s a tie between the first Men in Black and Pursuit of Happyness. For different reasons, those are the two almost-perfect movies.

‘Worst? I don’t know, Wild Wild West is just a thorn in my side. To see myself with chaps … I don’t like it.’

The steampunk Western boasted a cast including Will, Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh and Salma Hayek, but stumbled at the box office and ended up nominated for eight Golden Raspberry Awards, which reward cinematic under-achievement.

Repeating the same trick from Men in Black, where he performed the film’s theme song as well as starring in the movie, Will did mange to receive both a Golden Raspberry for worst original song and score a number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with Wild Wild West. You win some, you lose some.

Meanwhile, Will recently opened up about his career choices to sister publication British GQ in the November issue, revealing that he has always wanted to focus on ‘Black excellence’ rather than make films about slavery.

He explained: ‘I’ve always avoided making films about slavery. In the early part of my career… I didn’t want to show Black people in that light. I wanted to be a superhero.

‘So, I wanted to depict Black excellence alongside my white counterparts. I wanted to play roles that you would give to Tom Cruise.’

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star revealed he’d almost changed his mind to star in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained but decided he ‘didn’t want to make a slavery film about vengeance’ and the role ultimately went to Jamie Foxx.

Will’s new movie Emancipation is based on the true story of a man named Gordon, who escaped enslavement and joined the Union Army, with published photographs of his scarred back in 1863 providing proof to the abolitionist movement of slavery’s cruelty.

The 53-year-old says it’s ‘a disservice’ to dub the upcoming film a ‘slavery movie’ as he sees it as  more about the ‘love and the power of Black love’.
