Dame Arlene Phillips is reportedly set to become the oldest contestant to take part in this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Not only is Arlene set to become the oldest contestant, the 78-year-old former Strictly Come Dancing judge will also be the first Dame on the show.
The survival reality show will be in Wales for a second year, as plans to move it back to Australia were cancelled last minute.
The choreographer will brave the cold as the show returns to Gwrych Castle in North Wales.
A source said to The Mirror: ‘Arlene is strong and tough and her energy is boundless.’
‘No doubt she’ll have the group dancing around the campfire in a bid to beat the cold and keep morale high. Should be fun.’
The theatre director, who will be directing the new musical The Cher Show next year, recently said she was ready for fresh challenges.
She said: ‘I now want to do things that are totally out of my comfort zone’.
Well, we’re sure sticking your head into a helmet filled with spiders and cockroaches would challenge anyone.
Boris Johnson’s dad Stanley, who was in series 17 of the show, previously held the record for the oldest contestant, having been 77 when he appeared in 2017.
Harry Redknapp was 71 when he triumphed in 2018 and Caitlyn Jenner was 70 when she signed up in 2019.
With confirmation of a new series, the line-up rumour mill continues to turn, with the likes of Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon to former Love Island star Olivia Attwood reportedly taking part.
Hosts Ant and Dec will resume their regular presenting posts, but fans must wait a little longer to see the full line-up.
Not long to wait, November is only a month away.
Metro.co.uk has contacted ITV and reps for Arlene Phillips for comment.
I’m A Celebrity returns in November on ITV
