Katherine Ryan revealed her relationship with husband Bobby Koostra ended when they were teenagers so he could focus on football.

The couple were together at high school, where Bobby played for an American football team, and even went to prom together before going their separate ways leaving the comedian ‘devastated’.

However their love story had a happy ending after they ran into each other by chance at a pub two decades later.

Clearly still harbouring strong feelings for each other they tied the knot six months after they reunited.

Speaking on The One Show on Tuesday, the All That Glitters host said: ‘Bobby, I loved him. He was the quarterback of the American football team at our school and we went to prom together.

‘We split up because he needed to concentrate on football and I was devastated.

‘Then 20 years later I randomly saw him in a pub in Canada and I just loved…I’ve always loved him.

‘It sounds silly to say but since telling our story people have got in touch and said, “I’ve always loved my high school partner”.

‘I feel like your life when it’s ahead of you makes very little sense. It’s a mystery. But when you look at it in reverse you had intuition about things.’

She went on: ‘He’s just the most wonderful man for me and now we’re married for two years the other day. We got married six months after we bumped into each other again.’

Katherine and Bobby welcomed their son Frederick earlier this year.

The TV star, who is also mum to daughter Violet from a previous relationship, revealed to Metro.co.uk that she feels she reconnected with Bobby is because ‘I wasn’t looking for him’.

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think that the reason that I found Bobby is genuinely because I wasn’t looking for him and I was happy being alone, and then my life just drastically changed, changed, changed.’

‘Marriage is exactly what I feared,’ she joked. ‘I was like, “I can’t work anymore. I can’t see my friends. I have to cover my face. I’m not allowed out of the house”.

‘Covid and marriage coinciding for someone hyper independent like me is not ideal, but we got through it. It’s fine!’

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
