A$AP Rocky is the latest celeb to weigh in on Slap Gate.

The rapper has voiced his opinion on the unforgettable moment when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for making a jibe at wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

He proceeded to tell the comic to ‘keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth’ after Chris likened Jada to the fictional action character GI Jane, who shaves her head, while Jada has alopecia.

Weighing in on the drama, which has seen the Men in Black star resign from the Academy, A$AP Rocky claims Will ’emasculated another Black man.’

Speaking on Drink Champs podcast, a clip from an upcoming episode shows A$AP Rocky saying: ‘I’m a fan of Will, Jada, Chris, all of them. They OGs.

‘I think it’s unfortunate that, like, he emasculated another Black man in front of all them people like that.’

‘But I do think that, like, it’s some built-up s**t that probably wasn’t really targeted at Chris Rock. I don’t know. Like what you said, it seems like it’s more than just a G.I. Jane joke,’ he told the hosts.

A$AP Rocky – who is expecting his first child with girlfriend Rihanna – isn’t the only celebrity who reckons the slap was a long-time coming.

The View panellist and Academy Awards governor Whoopi Goldberg also thinks it was ‘a lot of stuff built-up,’ saying on the show: ‘I think he overreacted. I think he had one of those moments where it was like, just stop. I get it, not everybody acts the way we would like them to act under pressure. And he snapped.’

Following the incident – which has become one of the most talked-about moments in Oscars history – Will has apologised for his actions, while an investigation is still ongoing.

The 53-year-old said: ‘I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.’

David Rubin, the president of the Academy, said in a statement sent to PA news agency: ‘We have received and accepted Mr Will Smith’s immediate resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.’

He continued: ‘We will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, in advance of our next scheduled board meeting on April 18.’

There is still speculation around whether the King Richard actor will get to keep his best actor gong, which he took home for his performance as Venus and Serena Williams’ father.
