We Don’t Talk About Bruno may not be nominated for an Oscar, but they’re still talking about it.

The song from Disney’s animated musical Encanto has taken the world by storm and dominated music charts over recent weeks.

However, while Dos Oruguitas was submitted for best original song, the biggest hit from the film wasn’t eligible for a nomination.

But, as the 94th Academy Awards takes place later this month, the first live performance of We Don’t Talk About Bruno will hit the stage.

Today, the Academy announced on Twitter that the breakout song will be given the spotlight.

They tweeted: ‘We don’t talk about Bruno…except at this year’s #Oscars! Catch the 94th Academy Awards hosted by @MoreReginaHall, @amyschumer, and @iamwandasykes LIVE Sunday, March 27 on @ABCNetwork!’

Encanto is nominated for best animated film at the awards following global success after its release last year.

It’s become an internet fave after premiering on Disney Plus and now joins Flee, Luca, The Mitchells vs. The Machines and Raya and The Last Dragon in the category.

Meanwhile, Dos Oruguitas will compete against Beyoncé’s Be Alive from King Richard, Van Morrison’s Down To Joy from Belfast, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s No Time To Die from No Time to Die, and Diane Warren’s Somehow You Do from Four Good Days for best original song.

The Encanto movie has already generated a staggering $250million (£190million) at the box office and proved a hit with children and families.

Everyone has fallen in love with the story of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto.

The magic of the Encanto blesses every child in the family with a unique gift – every child except Mirabel. However, she soon becomes the Madrigals’ last hope when she discovers the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the soundtrack for Encanto, has defended Disney’s decision to push Dos Oruguitas for awards over Bruno.

‘I’m still proud of ‘Dos Oruguitas’ as the submission,’ he told Variety.

‘When those are the parameters, you have to pick the thing that best exemplifies the spirit of the movie, and it contains all of it inside this song – as opposed to a journey of a particular character. It’s the foundational story, but I’m not going to say it wasn’t hard [to choose].’

The upcoming awards will be hosted by Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes this year as some of the biggest films of the past 12 months battle it out for trophies.

There’s some tough competition, with Dune receiving 10 noms and Sir Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical project Belfast receiving seven.

The Power of the Dog leads the way, though, earning a whopping 12 noms.

The Oscars take place on March 27.
