Viewers of Saturday Night Takeaway were convinced that the wrong number was read out for the rainbow winner on this week’s show.
Singer Sam Fender was tasked with picking a number from a series of golden balls unleashed down a slide by actor Richard E. Grant to determine who would win a Takeaway Getaway.
Fans of the show had discovered the elusive Takeaway Rainbow was at the Seahaven Academy in Newhaven and flocked down for a chance to get their hands on a holiday by being the number and colour picked at random.
Sam, who was performing the End Of The Show Show, picked out a ball with the number seven after it had already been determined it would be someone in the green line that would win.
Contestant Wayne was hyped to win the prize after racing to the mystery location, but viewers took to Twitter to wonder whether they’d actually got the number wrong and it was supposed to be a one instead of a seven on the ball.
They tweeted: ‘can someone go back and show the 7 ball because i swear that was a 1’ and ‘is it just me or was that actually number 1??’
Others added: ‘That looked like a 1 over a 7’, ‘Definitely a 1’ and ‘wasn’t that a 1?????’
Another joked: ‘Justice for no1’, believing the wrong number had been pulled.
Despite the font being slightly ambiguous, Sam did indeed pick out a ball with the number seven on it, not number one – so the right winner got the holiday.
Winner Wayne looked completely overwhelmed to have been picked out of the large crowd at random, leaving viewers delighted at his reaction.
Saturday Night Takeaway returns on March 26 at 7pm on ITV.
