Outlander fans can rejoice as season six makes its way back to our screens after a two-year Droughtlander with no new episodes.
A member of the Outlander cast since the first season as Claire, alongside Sam Heughan as her co-lead Jamie, Caitriona Balfe appears again in season six as it delivers a fresh batch of eight episodes.
The Fraser-McKenzie clan is settled in Fraser’s Ridge, North Carolina, and the new season finds them in 1773 in the run-up to the American Revolutionary War as well as facing ‘tension’ at home with the arrival of new settlers.
Thanks to the huge success of Outlander internationally, as well as awards, clamour around other roles and recent happiness in her personal life, interest has been piqued in Caitriona.
But who is she and where else has she been seen?
Who is Catriona Balfe and what has she starred in?
Caitriona initially entered the public sphere as a model, after studying drama at the Dublin Institute of Technology.
Following more than 250 runway shows and modelling for the likes of Chanel, Dolce & Gabbanna, Alexander McQueen and Givenchy, Caitriona returned to her first love of acting.
Outlander made her a household name, starting in 2014, but before then she had appeared in films Super 8 and Now You See Me, as well as featuring as part of the main cast in web series H+: The Digital Series.
Since then, the Golden Globe nominee has co-starred in Money Monster with George Clooney and Julia Roberts, as well as Le Mans ’66 (also known as Ford vs Ferrari) in which she starred opposite Christian Bale as Mollie Miles, the wife of professional race car driver Ken Miles.
In 2021, she took on her most high-profile role to date outside the Starz historical fantasy series, as part of the cast for Sir Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical film Belfast.
Featuring alongside Jamie Dornan, Dame Judi Dench and Ciaran Hinds, the movie has been nominated for seven Oscars, including pest picture, and Caitriona herself has scored nominations for the best supporting actress award from Bafta, the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild.
Who is Caitriona Balfe’s husband and do they have children?
With many members of the Outlander fandom hoping that Caitriona and Sam may have shared a real-life romance due to their sizzling chemistry on the series, the pair remain firm friends – but friends only.
The star married her long-term partner, band manager Antony McGill, in 2019.
In August 2021, she gave birth to the couple’s first child, a son, having kept her pregnancy a secret from the public.
Sharing the news, the now 42-year-old posted a black and white shot showing her holding her baby’s hand as she opened up in a lengthy and impassioned caption.
The actress wrote: ‘I’ve been off socials for a while as I was taking some time to enjoy cooking up this little human …. We are so grateful for this little soul ….that he chose us as his parents.
‘I’m in awe of him already and can’t help stare and wonder at all the possibilities of who he will become, where he will go and what he’ll do on the big adventure of his life.’
Is Catriona Balfe on Twitter or Instagram?
As the above has confirmed, the actress is active both on Instagram and Twitter with similar usernames for each.
On Instagram, she can be found under the username @caitrionabalfe, where she shares updates on her career, fierce fashion looks and the odd behind-the-scenes glimpse with her 1.8million followers.
She’s also a regular presence on Twitter, where her username is @caitrionambalfe, and she also shares more on news and politics, alongside all the Outlander updates her fans could expect.
The actress is also a proud patron of World Child Cancer, which she keeps her followers updated on too.
