Facebook will no longer allow companies to promote ads revolving around political beliefs, sexual orientation or religion from next year, according to its recent announcement. From now onwards marketing based on sensitive topics, for instance breast cancer awareness, religious holidays or #Pride will not be entertained from the year 2022.

Meta – the parent organization of Facebook, recently changed its policy after a number of senate hearings post Facebook-Vaugen controversy and the leaked documents. The company claims its actions have been misinterpreted by some journalists.

Facebook ads have been a hot topic for years, especially after 2020 Presidential elections of the United States. The company put a stop to certain kinds of advertisements that were to be shown on the social media app.

“We want to better match people’s evolving expectations of how advertisers may reach them on our platform and address feedback from civil rights experts, policymakers and other stakeholders on the importance of preventing advertisers from abusing the targeting options we make available,” the company stated in a blog post.

The blog post further said, “The decision to remove these Detailed Targeting options was not easy and we know this change may negatively impact some businesses and organization.”
