Rapper Yung Reece has died aged 20 following a tragic shooting.
The musician, real name Marquis Lamar Hargrove, was shot dead in San Diego in the early hours of Halloween.
The star was reportedly rushed to hospital, but sadly could not be saved.
Police say the shooting took place at around 4am on Sunday on East 20th street, east of National City Boulevard in San Diego.
According to police reports, the alleged shooter – 18-year-old Israel Moreno – called the emergency services immediately after the incident.
He claims he shot Hargrove, who also went by Zoovie Kece, in self defence.
The rapper was best known for his songs Which Way? Dat Way and No Love, and his fans have been sharing tributes since news of his death broke.
Fans set up a memorial and have flooded social media with messages of love and condolences for his family.
‘Can’t believe I’m writing this. RIP,’ one wrote in his Instagram comments, where Hargrove boasts 23k followers.
‘You did so much for the music scene in this city. Gone too soon Kece,’ another said.
Hargrove leaves behind a one-year-old son, whom he often shared on social media.
His last post was dedicated to his son on Father’s Day, with the caption reading: ‘Risk it all for this lil boy right here. Happy fathers day to the ones that actually take kare they kid #NODEADBEATSINAGANG [sic].’
National City police investigators said they identified the rapper’s body after watching videos of him rapping on YouTube.
