Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Fletcher’s McFly bandmates are having to work on their new album without him while he puts in the hours on the show.

The 36-year-old musician and his professional partner Amy Dowden have been learning new routines for the hit series for the past six weeks, however, due to long hours, the singer hasn’t had any studio time.

Bandmate Harry Judd revealed to The Sun that the rest of the group, which also includes Dougie Poynter and Danny Jones, have completed their parts on their upcoming album, Young Dumb Thrills.

‘The progress has been great. We just need to get a load of Tom’s vocals down, then it’s finished,’ he explained.

Harry, who won series 10 of Strictly in 2011, understands just how ‘stressful’ rehearsals can be and what Tom is currently going through.

‘Tom’s finding it difficult, like we all do, with moments where you’re like, that’s not possible, how am I supposed to learn that in five days,’ he added.

The dancing duo’s Strictly journey hit a bump in the road, as they were forced to pull out of week two after testing positive for coronavirus, which also meant Tom couldn’t perform with the band in Glasgow.

The London-based pop band are hoping to release their long-awaited album next year, and fans will be able to see the boys reunite soon as they have confirmed a special-one off show at London’s O2 Arena.

The show’s latest Halloween special saw Tom and Amy perform a devilish-themed tango to AC/DC’s Highway To Hell and their performance divided the judges, with Anton Du Beke admitting it wasn’t his ‘best week,’ while Craig Revel Horwood praised the ‘traditional approach to the dance.

The Mail On Sunday recently leaked the voting figures from the latest episode, and Tom received the majority of the votes that weekend, winning 19.1%.

According to a source, the passionate fanbase for Tom’s band McFly has played a pivotal role in his popularity.

‘It’s a case of the McFly factor for Tom, the fans just don’t seem to stop being loyal to them,’ they said.

When asked about the leak of voting figures, a spokesperson for Strictly told Metro.co.uk that ‘this is pure speculation’.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6:45pm on BBC One.
