ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday turned down a proposal presented by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and the Finance Ministry for increasing the petrol price by Rs11.53/litre.

The prime minister took the decision, keeping in view the public interest and providing relief to them.

Keeping in view the price hike in the international market, Ogra and the Finance Ministry had proposed an increase in the petrol price by Rs11.53; high-speed diesel, Rs8.49; kerosene, Rs6.29; and light diesel oil, Rs5.72 from November 1, 2021.

However, the prime minister rejected the proposal and directed to keep the existing petroleum products prices intact for the next fortnight.

He said instead of shifting the burden of the international price rise to the consumers, the government’s priority was to provide maximum relief to the people and bear the burden of the proposed raise in the petroleum products prices.
