ISLAMABAD: Internet services in Pakistan have been disrupted due to a malfunction in the international underwater cable system near Fujairah, UAE. That very fault has now been repaired, said the Pakistani telecommunication authority (PTA) on Tuesday said in an official statement.

“A submarine cable fault was reported yesterday near Fujairah, UAE due to which some users may have faced degradation in services. The faulty cable segment has been repaired & work is underway to make the services fully functional,” the PTA tweeted.

“PTA is monitoring the situation and will continue to update on it,” the statement added.

In February of this year, an underwater cable system providing internet service malfunctioned, resulting in difficulties for Pakistani consumers in accessing internet services.

Earlier, in October 2019 too, online services were affected due to a fault in two international underwater cables providing internet to Pakistan.

In 2017, Internet services across the country were affected for two consecutive days due to a breakdown in the IMEWE ( India-Middle East-Western Europe) submarine cable.
