The already leaked GTA remaster trilogy has been confirmed by Rockstar and it’ll be out very soon, along with new additions to GTA Online.

It was pretty obvious that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was real as soon as it started leaking but even with the official announcement it still hasn’t got a release date.

According to Rockstar Games it will be out ‘later this year’ for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Android and iOS versions will be released in the first half of 2022.

The collection will include remasters of PlayStation 2 era games GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas and will include ‘across-the-board upgrades’, although as with the next gen versions of GTA 5 Rockstar is being vague as to what that actually means.

The upgrades will include ‘graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals’, but that’s as specific as Rockstar is willing to be.

The collection is being released to coincide with the 20th anniversary of GTA 3, which is on October 22. That happens to be a Friday this year, but if that was going to be the release date of the remasters Rockstar probably just would have said.

In advance of the launch, existing versions of the games will be removed from digital stores next week, so you’ve got a few days to pick those up if you want to hang on to the originals.

The anniversary will also be commemorated in GTA Online with ‘special events and surprises’ which, as you may have noticed, is also pretty vague, although commemorative clothing and liveries have already been promised.

Rockstar is also teasing a ‘new adventure’ later this year that will involve helping some ‘well-known and familiar faces in their attempts at ‘legit business’’.

Rockstar is also hinting at some ‘unusual activity occurring in and around Southern San Andreas’ this month, which sounds like a reference to the bigfoot appearances from the original San Andreas.

They’ll also continue the process of cycling Adversary Modes and Player Jobs in and out of the game to give new missions and modes a chance and to improve matchmaking ahead of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game.
