Gordon Ramsay rated the occasion he was chef to Princess Diana as the ‘best meal’ he ever cooked or ate while discussing significant memories with Gino D’Acampo and Fred Sirieix on Monday’s episode of Gordon, Gino and Fred Go Greek.

After enjoying a homecooked meal featuring the traditional Greek dish of moussaka on the stunning island of Santorini, the boys took in the picturesque sunset as they reminisced about their favourite meals.

With Gino proposing the question, Gordon answered first and spoke of the meal he made for Princess Diana.

‘Cooking for Lady Di once,’ he answered. When asked if she was nice, Gordon was (somewhat unusually) full of praise.

Dubbing her ‘just beautiful’ the Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares star continued, gesturing to the backdrop of Santorini for comparison: ‘I mean, here’s renowned as the supermodel of the islets – Santorini – and she, by far, was one the most gracious members of the royal family I’ve ever met.

‘A princess in just…’

And with the chef trailing off, Gino offered the finisher ‘through and through’, with which Gordon agreed.

In a 2016 interview with The Daily Mail, the 54-year-old chef recalled the meal, as he also dubbed the princess his dream dinner date.

He told the publication: ‘I was very fortunate to cook for her at Aubergine back in the early days. When she came in she was so normal. No airs and graces, security outside, she had the lunch menu and didn’t go a la carte.

‘I think it was a pressed leek terrine and her main course was sea bass.’

Gordon Ramsay was head chef at the popular Chelsea restaurant from 1993, when it opened, until 1998.

Fred told his co-travellers about the seafood selection dish he enjoys each Christmas at home in France with this parents, saying he had missed out on it in recent years due to Covid.

Gino’s most significant meal memory was poignant, as he remembered the exact date – August 13th 2017 – when his mother cooked a seafood spaghetti dish for him on what turned out to be the day before she died.

‘It feels like she knew she was going to die, and she put everything into that meal,’ he shared, emotionally.

‘It’s one of those very weird things.’

Gordon, Gino and Fred Go Greek continues at 9pm on Monday October 4 on ITV.
