Channel 4 is continuing to face disruption to its output with Sunday Brunch being the latest show to be impacted.

The broadcaster first reported glitches on Saturday night and went off air, with confused viewers seeing the holding screen for 25 minutes before normal output resumed. Moments later, the channel was said to have frozen again.

And it seems as though the problems have not been fully resolved just yet, with Sunday Brunch viewers complaining about picture and sound quality issues, as well as the show cutting to an ad break mid-interview.

Sunday Brunch’s official Twitter account acknowledged the glitches, writing: ‘Viewers on @Channel4 @all4 and other platforms may have noticed we are experiencing a few technical problems this morning. People are working very hard behind the scenes to fix them!’

Channel 4 added: ‘We continue to experience disruption to our services due to technical issues. We’re working hard to resume our normal services and appreciate your continued understanding and patience.’

The channel first announced the technical problems at 7pm on Saturday night.

‘Channel 4 and More 4 are currently off air due to a technical problem,’ a spokesperson said in a statement shared on social media.

‘We are working to restore them as quickly as possible.’

A subsequent post, published at 11.39pm, added: ‘We’re sorry for the ongoing disruption to your viewing this evening. We’re doing everything we can to get our services back to normal as quickly as possible.’

Channel 5 was also faced with technical issues and went off air on Saturday.

Some viewers said they were only shown a message on the channel which said: ‘We apologise for the interruption. We’ll be back with you as soon as we can.’

Red Bee Media, which handles playout services for Channel 4 and 5, said disruption was due to an ‘activation of the fire suppression systems’ on Saturday evening.

A spokesperson said: ‘We confirm that all staff at our Broadcast Centre in West London were safely evacuated following activation of the fire suppression systems.

‘As a result of this incident and the automatic safety measures set in motion at the time, several services originating from the Broadcast Centre have been disrupted.

‘London Fire Brigade attended the scene, and once they had determined that the building is safe, people were allowed to return to the building.

‘We are continuing to work to restore all services and remedy any issues caused by this incident.’
