The UAE will host the 19th GCC – CIGRE International Conference and 29th Exhibition for Electrical Equipment (GCC POWER 2023 Conference and Exhibition), organised by GCC CIGRE in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.

To be held under the patronage of Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, the event will be the largest of its kind and will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 13th-15th November.

GCC POWER 2023 will see discussions of 80 white papers to be presented by decision-makers, academia, and industrialists from all over the world to explore the status quo and future trends of the electricity sector in the Gulf region and ways to develop it.

The highly anticipated event will draw the participation of over 800 local, regional, and international electricity stakeholders, in addition to a large number of local and global companies that will participate in the accompanying exhibition.

Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, said,

“GCC countries have experienced a massive increase in the local demand for electricity. To meet this demand, major investments have been made to increase generation capacity in the last few decades. Electricity is a major enabler of sustainable development and economic progress. GCC POWER 2023 will offer an ideal platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities for this vital sector and facilitate knowledge and expertise sharing and new collaborations that help shape the future of the electricity sector.”

Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, said,

“The electricity sector is at the top of our leaders’ strategic priorities and is backed by an integrated host of legislations, policies, and projects. This makes the sector highly robust, resilient, and capable of providing uninterrupted supply to customers. We are pleased to partner with MoEI to host GCC POWER 2023 Conference and Exhibition that will help enhance the electricity sector as a key driver of a comprehensive development in the UAE and other GCC countries.”

Abdul Aziz Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of GCC CIGRE, said that

GCC POWER 2023 falls within a long track of conferences held annually by GCC CIGRE. The first conference was organised in 2003 in Muscat, Oman, while the last one to date was held in 2022 in Riyadh, KSA. All editions of the conference successfully provided actionable recommendations and attracted many participants. We expect the same for the 2023 edition and are confident it will achieve its objectives.”

Ahmed Ali Al-Ebrahim, Chairman of the GCC CIGRE Technical Committee, said that the conference will address the topic of resilience and sustainability of energy systems in the GCC countries. The recommendations that will come out of the conference will prove highly beneficial for electricity stakeholders in the GCC countries.

For his part, Ahmed Naser Al-Naser, Chairman of the GCC CIGRE Board, said,

“Primarily, the conference aims to drive progress in the electricity sector of the GCC countries and improve the workforce’s capacity. We at GCC CIGRE, encourage electricity engineers to embrace research and exchange experiences through such gatherings and workshops that we regularly organise.”
