Viewers were left wincing after Monday’s episode of First Dates when urologist Abi gave a confident demonstration off her circumcision technique on a banana.

The surgeon, who laughingly described herself rather directly as ‘a d*ck doctor’, was looking to find love after dedicating herself to her career in order to qualify in her chosen specialism.

Joking that men perhaps sometimes worried she was ‘going to chop it off in the middle of the night’, the 33-year-old doctor added: ‘Well, don’t p*ss me off!’

She was paired up on a date with accountant Adam, 34, with the pair seeming to hit it off – but not before she’d demonstrated her skill with a scalpel for viewers at home.

As she deftly performed faux surgery on the banana, she explained: ‘Essentially you’re trying to cut that bit, open it out, fold it back, take off that bit of skin…’

However, the scene was causing rather a reaction in its audience.

‘That moment when all Men watching wince and cross their legs,’ wrote one viewer.

Another put it more bluntly: ‘My penis hurts whilst Abi is demonstrating how to circumcise a banana.’

Another joked: ‘I’m no dating expert but I’ve got to believe that saying you’re into dissecting penises isn’t the quickest way to a man’s heart.’

Although they agreed to a second date, things didn’t progress further for Abi and Adam (Picture: Channel 4)

One audience member was taken by the ‘unexpected’ nature of the scene, while another loved how prepared First Dates was for her demonstration.

‘Dying at the fact production had a banana there for Abi to do her circumcision demonstration,’ they wrote.

Others also appreciated the educational aspect.

One tweeted: ‘The banana demo was very informative, actually…’

Adam and Abi laughed their way through their date, seemingly hitting it off – especially as Abi’s father also being an accountant meant she wasn’t worried about seeking parental approval.

However, things didn’t progress beyond a second date for the pair, much to some viewers’ disappointment, although others were fascinated when the surgeon was seen enjoying her new hobby of axe throwing.

‘Don’t let Abi near a bannana with that axe,’ joked one.

Another was all for it, commenting: ‘Love this woman-she cuts up penises and throws axes.’

It’s safe to say Abi was a First Dates participant that made an impression on the audience.

First Dates continues on Monday at 10pm on Channel 4.
