Seth Rogen didn’t mince his words while presenting the very first award at last night’s Emmys, immediately calling out the awards ceremony over its apparent lack of Covid-19 safety protocols.

The Emmy Awards 2021 was, unsurprisingly, a glamorous affair, with TV stars including Billy Porter, Kaley Cuoco and Kathryn Hahn rocking the red carpet in glamorous ensembles.

The first accolade of the night was for best supporting actress in a comedy series, which went to Hannah Waddingham for her incredible performance as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton in the critically-acclaimed series Ted Lasso.

Before Seth announced the nominees in the category, he opened his monologue by stating: ‘Good to be here at the Emmy Awards. Let me start by saying there is way too many of us in this little room.’

While the crowd chuckled at his blunt remark, he continued to emphasise how shocked he was that the event wasn’t held outdoors.

‘What are we doing?! They said this was outdoors! It’s not! They lied to us!’ the This Is The End star exclaimed.

‘We’re in a hermetically sealed tent right now. I would not have come to this! Why is there a roof?

‘It’s more important that we have three chandeliers than that we make sure we don’t kill Eugene Levy tonight. That is what has been decided.’

As a few members of the audience clapped, Seth pointed out how odd it was that he ‘went from wiping my groceries to having Paul Bettany sneeze in my face’, adding: ‘That’s a big week!’

He then joked that if anyone were to sneeze in his face, he would want it to be the WandaVision star, who was nominated for his role in the Marvel Studios show for best outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie.

When it was announced that Hannah had won for best supporting actress in a comedy, the Ted Lasso table erupted as they celebrated her win.

The Game of Thrones actor gave her Ted Lasso co-star Juno Temple a huge hug before she walked onto the stage, her eyes welling up as she delivered a heartfelt tribute to Jason Sudeikis.

Ahead of this year’s award ceremony, the Emmys explained that the celebrating at the event would be ‘done safely, with all attendees at Academy events required to provide proof of vaccination’.

‘In addition, guests at the Emmys — and everyone working at the Creative Arts shows and the telecast — must have had a negative Covid test within 48 hours of the ceremonies,’ it outlined.
