Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick advised the club to sign Monaco ace Aurelien Tchouameni before he departed Old Trafford.

The Frenchman is set to move to the Bernabeu after Real agreed a £68million deal with Monaco on Friday.

The 22-year-old had been one of the most sought-after players in world football after his eye-catching displays for Monaco last term.

Liverpool had been heavily linked with a move for Tchouameni but according to Andy Mitten, Rangnick was insistent on United moving for the France international.

The German was scathing of United’s transfer strategy and said the club could sign up to ten players this summer before he departed.

Rangnick had been set to work as a consultant for the club, helping United’s board to identify new players and to advise on transfer strategy.

United are yet to make a signing this summer, with the club focused on signing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong before moving on to new targets.

The La Liga giants are willing to sell the Dutchman, but they’re seeking around £72m for the midfielder.

Jurrien Timber, Antony and Pau Torres are all other targets, while calls will be made on James Garner, Amad Diallo and Anthony Martial.
