The ongoing Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) witnessed an insightful discussion on the dynamics of habits and their influence on an individual’s life, led by behavioural economics specialist, Adela Schicker, and author and trainer Rashid Hassan Al Ali.
Titled ‘The Power of Habit’ and moderated by Abdulkareem Haneef, the talk underlined effective strategies people can employ to change their habits for the better, and fully harness their power for personal growth and success.
Schicker, the co-author of the international bestseller The End of Procrastination: How to Stop Postponing and Live a Fulfilled Life, noted: “Habits are the invisible architecture of our lives, and to transform our lives. We must start by understanding how habits work. Once we grasp the science behind them, we can embark on a journey of self-improvement and personal development with confidence”.
Rashid Hassan Al Ali, who has spent years studying the intricacies of habit formation and modification, added, “Changing habits is not easy, but it’s entirely achievable. It requires dedication, self-awareness, and the right strategies. By adopting the right habits, we can elevate our performance in all aspects of life”.
He further stressed the importance of surrounding oneself with positive individuals and highlighted its profound impact on personal well-being and outlook on life. He pointed out that positive people radiate optimism, fostering an atmosphere of encouragement and support that bolsters mental resilience.
The session also addressed the role of habits in professional success. Attendees received practical advice on how to cultivate good work habits, foster a growth mindset, and develop a winning attitude that can propel them forward in their careers.
The 12-day book fair running in Expo Centre Sharjah until November 12 will continue hosting such inspiring discussions and debates, during which intellectuals and thought leaders from around the world. A celebration of global literature and knowledge, and cultural exchange, SIBF 2023 carries the theme ‘We Speak Books’.
