The 62nd National Amateur Golf Championship is set to commence on April 26th at the Lahore Gymkhana par 72 golf course, featuring players from five countries, including hosts Pakistan, for the first time in the tournament’s history. The championship, supported by Smart City, has attracted golfers from Egypt, Bangladesh, Qatar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. 

To ensure the highest level of competition, the tournament has set an eligibility requirement for each player to have a handicap of seven or below. The event will host around 150 golfers, including 20 women, with the golfers from Egypt, Qatar, and Sri Lanka already present. 

Malik Mohammad Kamran, the Pakistan Golf Federation manager, stated, “We have around 150 golfers competing from Pakistan, including 20 women. We had a practice session on Tuesday, while the competition will start from April 26. The golfers from Bangladesh and Nepal were scheduled to participate but had not arrived yet.” 

The four-day championship will feature several categories, including Men, Women, Seniors, International Team Match, and JR Jayawardene Trophy. Pakistani players such as Salman Jehangir, Qasim Ali Khan, Saim Shazli, Hussain Hamid, and Mohsin Zafar are expected to face stiff competition from youngsters like Omar Khalid, Saad Habib, Damil Ataullah, and Yashal Shah, who won the 14th Faldo Asia Grand Final Golf Championship in Vietnam on April 22.

Furthermore, the 4th Longest Drive Championship, streamed live on the PGF Facebook page, was held on Tuesday, with the winner taking home Rs100,000, the first runner-up bagging Rs60,000, and the second runner-up winning Rs30,000.
