Paul Pogba’s Manchester United exit has ‘left a bad taste in the mouth’, according to former player and pundit Gary Neville.

The France international midfielder and World Cup winner has taken several swipes at United as his contract comes to an end on June 30 and he nears a return to Juventus in Italy following his poor second spell in England.

Pogba re-signed for Man United in 2016 for a then-world record deal worth £89m – and has largely struggled – but now wants to prove that they are making a ‘mistake’ in not extending his deal.

‘My thought process is to show Manchester [United] that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract,’ the 29-year-old said in his new documentary dubbed The Pogmentary.

‘And to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract.’

Pogba has also complained about United offering him ‘nothing’ despite the club putting at least two deals on the table worth more than his current £290,000-a-week contract, has spoken about his need to feel ‘loved’ and admitted that ‘[people] can bring you down’.

In response to those various remarks, Neville said on TikTok: ‘I’m not bothered about Pogba’s comments to be honest with you.

‘I think that once a player has left, he can say whatever he wants. Fine, no problem. But I don’t think he has performed well over the last six years.

‘I don’t think the club have performed well with him either, or handled him well. It’s been a partnership that, to be fair, has failed on both sides so that is what you’d have to say.

‘There is no winner when a player leaves after six years with the money that has been spent and very little has been won.

‘The player leaves dissatisfied and the club are dissatisfied with it as well. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth because it’s the second time it’s happened.

‘You wish him all the best in the future at Juventus.’

During his second spell at Old Trafford, Pogba helped Manchester United win the Europa League and Carabao Cup in 2016-17 over his 266 appearances in six years, scoring 39 goals.
