Arsenal have been left frustrated after Fiorentina offered €7 million (£6m) for Lucas Torreira, according to reports in Italy.
The Uruguay international has just spent the season on loan at Fiorentina and established himself as a key player in their midfield.
The Serie A club also had the option to buy Torreira for a €15m (£12.8m) fee during his loan spell but opted not to trigger that clause,
According to Fiorentina.it, Arsenal’s hierarchy are now ‘annoyed’ by Fiorentina’s decision to offer less than half that amount for Torreira now that his loan has finished.
Torreira has just a year remaining on his deal with Arsenal and the Gunners are keen to sell in order to use the funds to help bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad this summer.
The report claims that Arsenal have not even responded to Fiorentina’s proposal, while the Serie A club also avoided paying a €1.5m (£1.2m) loan fee as the midfielder played over 25 games last season.
Speaking over the weekend, Torreira made it clear once again that his preference is to remain at Fiorentina.
‘My idea is to be able to stay at Fiorentina , but if that doesn’t happen I’ll look for a team where I can have continuity,’ Torreira said.
‘At the moment I don’t know anything at all, I just want to rest, take a break because it’s been a busy season.
‘In due course I will sit down with my agent and we will do so to find the best options.’
