David Moyes is reportedly determined to re-sign Jesse Lingard for West Ham following the attacking midfielder’s exit from Manchester United.

The Sun also reports that the manager is also keen to offload several players who he has deemed not good enough for the Irons, with Said Benrahma facing the chopping block.

Lingard joined West Ham on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season after falling out of favour with then-United boss Ole Gunnar Solskajer, and would have a huge impact, scoring nine and assisting five in just 16 games for the East London club.

He was linked with a permanent move to the London Stadium last summer, as well as Newcastle in January, but ended up staying at Old Trafford although he rarely featured during his final campaign with his boyhood club.

It is no surprise that Moyes is still interested in acquiring the 29-year-old free agent, as even though West Ham had another terrific season under the Scotsman, a lack of firepower meant the side ran out of steam at a pivotal point in the year.

At one stage it appeared as though the Irons could challenge for the top four but after failing to sign an attacker in January, the goals dried up and they were pipped to sixth place in the league by United, whilst also getting knocked out of the Europa League semi-finals by eventual winners Frankfurt.

This has prompted Moyes to revaluate his entire squad in the summer, and several players may be axed with forward Benrahma in danger of getting sold.

The 26-year-old’s form has blown hot and cold for West Ham since he moved there from Brentford two years ago and a total of 11 goals and six assists from 48 games may not be enough to save the Algerian international.

But one player who Moyes will be determined to keep this summer is star midfielder Declan Rice who continues to be linked with a move after rejecting a new long-term contract worth a reported £200,000-a-week.
