Donny van de Beek has offered himself to Roma despite Erik ten Hag’s arrival at Manchester United.
The Dutch midfielder joined United from Ajax in the summer of 2020 after starting under ten Hag in Amsterdam.
But he has failed to hold down a first-team role in England, leaving Old Trafford to join Everton on loan until the end of the season in January.
Ten Hag’s arrival in Manchester has led to renewed hope that van de Beek will be given greater opportunities at United going forward, with the departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic opening up more space in the squad.
However, Corriere della Sera claim van de Beek is ready to leave the club and join up with former United boss Jose Mourinho at Roma.
The move would be seen as a surprise after ten Hag expressed his delight over the prospect of working with van de Beek again in his first press conference as United manager.
Asked if he was keen to see his fellow countryman again, Ten Hag replied: ‘Yes, of course, we had a fantastic squad in that time in Ajax.
‘I really had a good relationship with him and, of course, I’m looking forward to meeting him again on the pitch.’
Ten Hag has made rebuilding United’s midfield a priority this summer and wants to bring in another former Ajax star in Frenkie de Jong to play a key role in that process.
De Jong and van de Beek both played key roles in Ajax’s superb Champions League run in 2019, where the Dutch giants reached the semi-final stage.
