Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny says he would be delighted to see Paul Pogba return to the club following his departure from Manchester United.
Pogba’s second exit from Old Trafford was officially confirmed by United on Wednesday, with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain the frontrunners to sign the midfielder on a free transfer.
The French World Cup winner has made the move from Manchester to Turin before back in 2012, after failing to get the game time he wanted in England, eventually winning four straight Serie A titles before returning to the Red Devils in a then-world record transfer.
Speaking about the possibility of the 29-year-old re-joining Juventus, Szczesny said: ‘I’d be delighted to see that happen.
‘He did brilliantly in his previous time at Juventus so he would be a great addition to the squad.
‘He is a player with good calibre and experience, and he has good memories from Turin.’
After a good first season back at Old Trafford where he won the EFL Cup and the Europa League, Pogba’s United return fell apart with injuries, poor form, bad management and off-pitch issues preventing the player from performing to his best.
He ends his United career with 39 goals and 51 assists in 233 appearances, but despite his recent struggles Szczesny is confident that Pogba is still one of the world’s finest in his position.
‘Maybe over the last couple of years the consistency of his game and the injuries didn’t help at United,’ the former Arsenal shot stopper added, who has himself endured great success since switching the Emirates for Italy in 2017.
‘But when he is fit, he is still one of the best in the world.’
It may not be long before Pogba’s future is decided with the Daily Mail reporting on Thursday that Juventus have offered the Frenchman a three-year contract worth around £135,000-a-week.
