The Oscars 2022 are nearly upon us and fans are so ready to see film’s biggest night of the year.
Hollywood stars are about to descend upon the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to celebrate the year’s biggest and best movies.
Up for best picture are films including The Power of the Dog, Coda, and West Side Story, while Kristen Stewart and Jessica Chastain are among those nominated for best actress.
Best actor could be won by the likes of Will Smith, Benedict Cumberbatch, or Andrew Garfield.
Another category to be awarded is the Oscars fan favourite award.
What is the Oscars fan favourite award?
The Oscars fan favourite award is designed to focus on more mainstream films that might not have landed an award in other categories.
It’s set to be won from public votes from social media and the Academy website (be warned: the Academy website page won’t work in the UK!).
However, it won’t receive a golden statuette.
‘It’s not an Oscar and it’s not an award, it’s really just an acknowledgement,” the producer of this year’s ceremony Will Packer told Little Gold Men.
‘And to me, that’s a good thing. This ceremony doesn’t have to be all awards, bereft of entertainment, just all about the amazing artists and craftspeople. We can do both.’
Which films are being rumoured for the Oscars Fan Favourite award?
- Spider-Man: No Way Home: The Marvel hit clearly had mass appeal, becoming the first pandemic-era film to hit $1billion (£746million) at the box office.
- Dune: Denis Villenueve’s sci-fi epic is nominated in other categories, but that might not stop fans from voting for it.
- Tick, Tick…Boom!: Andrew Garfield is up for best actor for his role in the Netflix movie but Tick, Tick…Boom! still caused a massive stir on social media.
- The Suicide Squad: Fans were thrilled by James Gunn’s movie, which was reviewed much more highly than the first one. It could be in the running!
